K-12 Curriculum
The K-12 courses are designed to provide students with a sound basis for learning to communicate effectively and accurately in contemporary spoken and written Italian.
This approach is intended to enable students to use all four language skills-listening,speaking,reading and writing-while exploring aspects of Italian culture and civilization. The curricula are based on the U.S. Standards for Foreign Language Learning:
These standards identify five goals as the main reason for studying a foreign language:
Learning what to say to whom in the target language, when, how and why;
Having access to the everyday life, social institutions, cultural attitudes, works of literature and art of the country whose language is being studied;
Comparing different languages and cultures, realizing that multiple ways of viewing the world do exist;
Using the target language outside of the classroom in a variety of contexts;
Reinforcing other learning areas using the skills acquired with the new language. |
