K-12 Curriculum

The K-12 courses are designed to provide students with a sound basis for learning to communicate effectively and accurately in contemporary spoken and written Italian.  

This approach is intended to enable students to use all four language skills-listening,speaking,reading and writing-while exploring aspects of Italian culture and civilization. The curricula are based on the U.S. Standards for Foreign Language Learning:

Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century

 

Communication:

Learning what to say to whom in the target language, when, how and why;

Cultures:

Having access to the everyday life, social institutions, cultural attitudes, works of literature and art of the country whose language is being studied;

Comparisons:

Comparing different languages and cultures, realizing that multiple ways of viewing the world do exist;

Communities:

Using the target language outside of the classroom in a variety of contexts;

Connections:

Reinforcing other learning areas using the skills acquired with the new language.
